Awards
Dr. H. Carroll Eastman was named Outstanding Physician of the Year for 2010 by the Massachusetts League of Community Health Services at its gala in June. In recognition of this honor, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Senate extended its congratulations to Dr. Eastman in the form of an Official Citation.
On behalf of the medical and outreach departments, Executive Director Elizabeth Browne accepted the Mayor's award for JMSCHC's outstanding contributon to the City of Boston 2009-10 H1N1 influenza prevention program. The two departments collaborated in conducting numerous vaccination clinics in Allston and Brighton
In June 2010, the University of Massachusetts gave a commendation to JMSCHC for its participation in and support of the Language Services Improvement Collaborative. Twenty-seven staff members were certified to deliver medical interpretation after 20 hours of rigorous training and final exam.
The JMSCHC Prevention and Wellness Department
received an award in November 2008 from the Department of Public Health
in recognition of having the highest number of participants in its
first Colonoscopy Day.
Dr. Leonard Contardo, Optometrist, was named Outstanding Preceptor of 2007-08 by the New England College of Optometry. Dr. Contardo supervises approximately thirty students over the course of a year at JMSCHC.
Sonia Ventura Mee, Director of Counseling and Community Services, was named an "Unsung Heroine for 2007" for her tireless efforts in the interests of community health, by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.
The entire Community Services team, consisting of Alicia Castro, Nair Alves Rocha, Jacqueline Caceres, Ema Mecagni, Kim Nguyen and Shela Desire-Charlot, along with their manager, Francisca Guevara, was recognized for their services to JMSCHC patients at the 2007 annual meeting of the Community Health Education Center.
